A perspective on a woman's wardrobe...

One of the biggest challenge which women of this generation faces is having a 'functional wardrobe'. I am talking about women who may or may not have families, they hail mainly from middle class or upper middle class families which have found a niche in corporate world. These women may have family to take care of, social customs to abide, rigorous travels to handle and might have to handle immense pressure at workplace. She is like a superwoman, and apparently the quintessential wardrobe of superman with a cape will not be a functional one for her. So here comes the concept for 'functional wardrobe' for today's women of substance.

I think every women should put a lot of thinking and heart in planning her wardrobe. The clothes need not be state of art, but they should reflect the identity of a person in a stylish way.

1. Willingness to work harder to dress up tastefully. This the first and foremost thing because of which most of the women wardrobes are a disaster. Every women on this planet wants to look good, but everyday struggle, just kills the appetite for daily fashion. And has anyone made of the note in the mindset common man has, people who are too dressed up are arrogant and 'bad'. Time to get out of all mindsets and make a silent vow to self to never live without style!!

2. Work wardrobe is an important part of every woman's wardrobe. We spent most of the time in weekdays in office, so it definitely deserves some attention. Ask any women about office attire and they will only count trousers and shirts as essentials. In Indian scenario salwar suits also fall into this category. What we miss out are things like footwear, handbag, accessories. These can make or break your look so they fall under your wardrobe essentials. Agree?

3. Time to sleep, dress to kill and look absolutely pretty. Can there be something more relaxing than going to bed squeaky clean and feeling all special. Make sure to get comfortable and luxuries or adorable looking night wear.

4. Rest of the day at home kind of wardrobe has to be functional and laid back. Nicely selected t-shirt and tracks or long skirt and nice kurti, the possibilities are endless. the mantra to select a day to day outfit is that in case you have to open the front door without getting a chance to change then the person at door should be taken by surprise how different you may look at home and not how shabby you can look at home.

5 Grocery shopping/regular errands wardrobe has to be very practical. This has to be something which doesn't need ironing and would be termed as appropriate even if you have to go to a local market. It should be comfortable and sensible; in case you have to life something heavy or bend down to pick up stuff(no showing off cleavage back or front).

6 Your gym attire should instill the feeling in you to look better. I have usually seen women wearing rags to gym, they apparently choose clothes which are over sized and ugly. On the contrary choose clothes which are well fitted, smart and have nice color and hue to it. The thrill to workout and motivation to lose weight and stay fit increases if you are al ready looking good.

7 At Social occasions which are more casual, have you seen some women wear a nice Kanjeevaram just because you are expected to wear a saree. Well those are the women who buy saree rarely, so they believe in buying rich and expensive sarees. Tone down and buy some casual sarees or salwar suit for such occasions. Looks that make heads turn is not always a good sign!

8 At Social occasions which are little special/grand in nature, I admire people who can experiment. Yes making your outfit look special is a challenge, in a party/function full of kanjeevarams, goergette, chiffon and crepe you need to be really innovative to make your outfit stand out.

9 Doing out for dinner/lunch with friends - outfit has to be trendy and according to the person you carry in the outside world. usually women of today carry a different persona at home(around family) and outside(with husband, colleagues and friends). The dressing up for dinner/lunch with this group as to be according to that. Its up to you to create a persona of a person who doesn't care about her looks or of a person who always dressed in style.

10 Doing out for dinner/lunch with girl friends - the dress for such outings is a perfect canvas to experiment on looks and trends. This is the time when you can give an edge to your everyday look.

Dressing up is every woman's interest and inclination. All it needs is a willingness to be thoughtful and tasteful. If money was the main criteria then we don't have seen so many badly dressed rich women.

Somberness....

Have you ever had that feeling that the world needs to end, or at least your part in this whole plotted drama should come to an end! It is at these times that we find all the reasons to convince ourselves that the world is no longer a place to breath in. You are ready to believe the fact that there is a better or worse out there after we leave our mortal bodies.

Well the same thought has been clouding my mind for a long time now. I think I have so many people I have to be thankful to for I have so much love and kindness in my life. I have amazing set of parents(birth and by law), have love of my life with me, have a rewarding career and a warm home to go to. Then why this feeling of sudden detachment. I have to sometimes pull myself back from the emotion that I need to flee away.

One of the reasons which has recently put me off this track is the social customs and setup. Don't know why but lately this social hypocrisy is something which I am just not able to take any more. The social double game happening around is making me lose faith in the very human sense and I want to break free. Why this cynicism!!

I get a sense that the world is going in ruts. I know there will be a section of people who will say they knew this years before and also there will be a group of people who will swear on their lives that nothing bad is going to happen. They have faith in goodness winning over the bad, but who defines the 'good' and 'bad', the society we live in; well the sanity of which is itself in question here. Why this hopelessness!!

I think learned people gave away the essence of life when they said, do what your heart wants and don't worry about the consequences. Because doing what others want is not going to help you anyways. The people based on whom all your deeds are directed will never be happy and in ignoring what you want you are making the person inside you, 'YOU' deeply unhappy. And when 'YOU' lose hope, it is going to take lot of time to get back the trust in yourself. Why this bondage!!

Biggest truth about life is that all attachments in life bring unhappiness. It makes you a weak person who is always dependent on others to make you happy. It turns you into a clingy person who like a parasite wants to add happiness in ones life by hooking onto other people or idea. Why this setup for unhappiness!!

As a human we are bound to lay out a life for self, which has all the things which we want or aspire for. Meet someone in life whom you love or emotional and if your aspirations conflict, then why is there this silence. The same aspiration starts looking like a poison which can rot life of so many other people. The once achievable aspiration turns into an impossible dream. Why this guilt!!

Why are there so many contradictions in life, why can't we live a life where each day is a celebration and every moment is something you will die for. Live a life on your terms and conditions, trust me at the end of it you will have lesser questions to answer to self and little guilt; because in the end at least you can say I lived my life as I wanted to.

Why this feeling of sadness!!

Sisterhood of traveling pants.....

There have been countless quotes on friendship and how a good friend can fill the void in your life which sometimes even your better half can't!!

I am a sucker for movies, serials which talk about friendship. These depict kind of friendship which is not ideal or straight out of the books, these talk about everyday friendship, where there are elements of trust, fun, emotions, fights, arguments, hatred(yes hatred !), jealously, unconditional love, no judgment. In short the sort of friendship we all have in our everyday life. We have friends who we have arguments with and we talk our mind out to them, we love these souls for the person they are..and even though we might have difference of opinion, but despite given a chance we might not have even one thing changed about them.

These are the relations which we make in this materialistic, ever-changing, illusioned and distant worlds...so if these bonds survive these elements and continue to be part of our life, then these bonds are there to stay and nourish your life and souls.

you don't need to get acquainted to a friend..you can meet a friend after years and you wont need time to get back into groove, the chemistry, the spark, the love surfaces almost instantly.

i recently read about the importance of fellow friends in life of a women. yes women can have many guy friends but they need a confidant in a girl friend too. have a friendship bond like this makes women more secure and confident women. Its more refreshing to catch up with friends then to go shopping(which can have immediate adverse effects - imagine going for jeans shopping and long term - credit card bills). So friend therapy is better than retail therapy.

The movies/serials which i feel always makes my heart melt and miss my friends are:
1. Sex and the City - Does this need an explanation. The bond which these four friends share and the contemporary touch to it is something which every working women can relate to.
2. Desperate Housewives - This talks about the friendship which bloomed because few women have no option but to stay in a neighborhood. Despite their differences these women have one thing in common, they are married and go through everyday pressures of household..they can sympathize with each other.
3. Sisterhood of the traveling pant(Part I and II) - how teenage girls come up with this kiddish idea of sharing these pair of jeans. These jeans keep traveling between these three friends as they go ahead on the paths of their life. Its all about growing up and handling situations in life..becoming adults and what keeps us going is faith/hope(signified by jeans) which we share between us and which can take us through toughest of times.
4. Under the Tuscan Sun - story of a divorce women who has lost everything in life, as a last shot to life she buys a old/battered villa in Tuscany from all her savings. This marks the beginning of a beautiful story of how her life gets evolved. she finds a friend in a drunkard and failed actress who gives her mantra of life...'never lose your childish enthusiasm'.
5. Dor - This is a Hindi movie which depicts a friendship beyond territories, languages, culture. A friend can change your life forever, this movie depicts that in truest sense.

So Venusian need more emotional bonding and the commercial world knows and exploits it. Well I can see it other way also...these reel characters always make me realize the importance of my friends in my life and how i should always keep them close to my heart...so i keep the emotional element running in my life using these films. as far as these movies/sitcoms keep showing these eternal bond so beautifully, they have a consistent audience in me.

Three cheers to the bond called friendship...!!!

contd...random Ramble

as if anyone is interested in my random ramble...bt here i go again...

What's in this week:
1. Thinking thin - Got to tell myself every now and then that i am fabulous and am losing weight and looking thin. it works for everyone and i am sure it will work for me too...
2. Taking care of skin - lately my skin has been behaving crazy, with painful ache all over my cheeks n chin. problem is i hv been ignoring it also, just washing face twice a day(**sheepishly admitting sometimes skipping night routine). Will do facial every 3 days and will apply clay mask every alternate day, i am sure this ache will be gone soon. contemplating on facial...bt from a place which specializes in facials on a acne prone skin.
3. Exercise - got to do at least 30 min exercise everyday...
4. Waking up early - will start with 10 min each 3 days. half hour and I can accommodate my morning exercise.

What's out this week:
1. Greasy Food - no matter everyone in house in having it, i am not going to eat greasy food
2. Sugar intake - Got to stop eating sweets and frequency of tea(i think i already do that, occasional splurges are the killer.
3. Inhibitions to travel alone - 2.5 months in Bangalore i still have inhibitions in traveling alone. this weekend i will shun these inhibitions and go to MG Road...yeah for me...
4. Keeping room unkempt - yes i love throwing things around and it is so convenient(hubby also pampers me as he doesn't seem to mind my carelessness)...gt to inculcate more aesthetic sense...

Last 2 weeks have passed by in a blink. with my parents in Bangalore, most of time was spent in chatting and being at home. Hope they had a nice time here, i miss them....a lot !!!

Random Ramble...

Had been a while since I have posted a blog, I guess writers block keeps coming back before it is finally gone. Right now I don't have time and resources to blog so often. Time - because I reach home at around 10ish, then dinner, family gup shup and before I realize the clock s already showing midnight. And yes after that I doze off. My laptop screen s not working so I cannot blog so often at home. I somehow don’t find using internet also so convenient (thank God at least it is there). Without a wireless there is not much freedom to blog. Once I am back home I think I would be more frequent in updating these blogs.

Next month I complete 1 year of my wonderful and blessed married life. Planning to keep a low keynote about it, just close family friends. I know most of the people wonder isn’t anniversary meant to be a personal romantic affair, yeah but this is India, here you have seldom 'me' or 'us' moments; which sometimes is good in a way.

What's in:

1. Hunt for any anniversary trousseau - yes there is this incessant search/hunt I am in to find that perfect saree for my anniversary. Why is it so difficult at times to find what you are looking for? I am waiting for that ' yes' moment, when I will look at the saree and can only think that this piece of cloth is made for me

2. Silver Jewelry - I am so frigging in love with this metal. Given a chance I will buy all silver jewelry in this world, yeah exaggerated, but that is how much I am loving silver jewelry right now. I refuse to go close to that silver jewelry shop now because I have already spent a fortune there (silver jewelry s pretty expensive). And yes I would mention that 'Marka Silver' especially is the object of my desire right now (after my hubby but obviously)

3. Sindor - yes been wearing this sign of being a married Hindu Indian female. I never used to like it, but suggestion of my dear mom-in-law (so happy that she suggested it) started putting it and I must admit I kind of like it. The 'me' element in it is I shunned the powdery and can be harmful sindoor and am using MAC ruby red (I think so).

4. Home Decor - so intrigued by idea to design my home from scratch and coordinate everything in my home. Duh...lack the creativity, but the desire is there, will start maintaining a scrap book of all designs I get my eye on

5. Femina - yes my beloved Femina, the magazine I so miss when I am in US. Glossy pages, perfectly clicked snaps, inspiring stories, nice fashion. It is my daily dose of the aspect of life which I love - fashion. Haven’t missed an edition since I have been in India.

What's out:

1. Missing home in US - Is there a point in missing, I mean what I get out of it, would my stay in India become short. Nope none of these. So missing home and feeling sick is so out of fashion in my life. Makes things easier.

2. Scare to be a Mom- Yes with one year completion of my blessed marriage, I have to think about becoming a mommy. So all the inhibitions have to be shunned. God help me in that.

3. Drinking regular chai tea lattes in mornings - Yes cause major screw up for my digestive system. Preferring to drink black tea with lemon piece or my beloved green tea in special flavor(raspberry pomegranate). It is very gentle on my stomach and gives me a feeling that I am drinking tea.

4. Reading between the lines - yes trying to give up this very women thing. Take it easy baby, got to chant that mantra every time I try to read between the lines or my blood starts to boil.

5. Buying time pass clothes - planning to buy only classy pieces..something which I can wear and walk into Leela Palace without feeling conscious of my dress. Need to do some wardrobe planning.

Lets talk about losing it ;-)

Whenever i want an inspiration to lose weight...i look at this pic. Pics like these always inspire me to have a fab body. I knw that these pictures can be morphed and that it is crazy to think about getting a figure that...but for me this is a healthy inspiration...n always puts me in a frame of mind where i want to be fit and look my best...n yes inspires me to drink more water !!!!

Have you ever tried the jillian Michaels CD, well my verdict on two of those(30 day shred and Yoga Melt down) is that she is RUTHLESS !! in 20 min she can make you sweat like a pig and take you to s state where next day after your yoga you are not able to walk, sit and your muscles pain all over...yes that sounds like a perfect way to lose it(weight !!). ahem ahem..let me admit, so far these are the BEST DVDs i have seen on weight loss exercises(i hv tried many, either the exercise are not strenuous enough or the commentary is so boring that you loose your patience instead of weight). Best thing about this instructor(of the Biggest Loser fame) is her ABSOLUTELY fab body(watch out for her flat abs) which inspires you. Also i love the way she instructs and inspires her audience. even if u r doing the exercise 5th time, you would like her instructions. she has one liner punches like..."Get comfortable in being uncomfortable" or "if you are looking for modifications for jumping jacks look else where". The CD is divided into levels(based on intensity) and each workout has three deviations - beginner, intermediate(for some postures) and advanced.

I would seriously recommend this DVD to anyone who wants to lose weight but is press on time...do this 20min exercise, do it in a way that you give in all that you have and i m sure results will follow(of course the diet factor is absolutely essential as far as losing weight goes). Based on my experience you can really control your weight gain by controlling your diet(though have doubts if you can lose weight). and by saying controlling diet i meant eat well balanced diet + occasional splurges also, but eat everything in moderation and control what you eat before you go to bed(may be i should write a separate blog on diet).

Well enough of rambling, i will cut myself out now...Happy Monday....

Side Note: I am wonder why do we have only women in both these workouts, is it only meant for women!!! well...doesn't matter to me :)

Friday shopping....

There is nothing like friday shopping...best way to start your weekend and to finally ebb out the week's stress(confessions of a shopoholic :) )

I have not been into too much shopping since i am back to bangalore, reasons are basically tht i donot have much time(weekdays are hectic and so weekends are super lazy)...bt i FINALLY broke the rule and went out for shopping on Friday evening. Hubby was busy with meetings n office work and i was done with my work, so instead of waiting for him in office i went shopping...ended up doing some jewellwry shopping(some silver jwellery) and my fav magazine(Femina - they have a freebie- sample of new pantene prov for hair loss control...pssst....i personally feel prov is very powerful shampoo in terms of chemicals n chemicals can never stop hair fall...bt then it is my opinion!!! i knw ppl who wear by pantene products and have most beautiful tresses possible...)

1. Bought a tiny rectangle shape ear stud- its actually the shape of the earstud that attracted me

2. bought a shiny silver earring

3. bought a awesome rectangle shaped antique silver finish bangle(most expensive deal for the day)

and also pic of the nail color i will be wearing for this week(i m obsessed with nail colors)...its called steel grey and it is from Rimmel...n i like the dirty and merky color shade like these....earlier i used to wear all shades of pink bt then took a conscience decision to try newer shades and i m happy abt my decision....

weekend in its last leg....have a wonderful rest of the weekend...
