A perspective on a woman's wardrobe...

One of the biggest challenge which women of this generation faces is having a 'functional wardrobe'. I am talking about women who may or may not have families, they hail mainly from middle class or upper middle class families which have found a niche in corporate world. These women may have family to take care of, social customs to abide, rigorous travels to handle and might have to handle immense pressure at workplace. She is like a superwoman, and apparently the quintessential wardrobe of superman with a cape will not be a functional one for her. So here comes the concept for 'functional wardrobe' for today's women of substance.

I think every women should put a lot of thinking and heart in planning her wardrobe. The clothes need not be state of art, but they should reflect the identity of a person in a stylish way.

1. Willingness to work harder to dress up tastefully. This the first and foremost thing because of which most of the women wardrobes are a disaster. Every women on this planet wants to look good, but everyday struggle, just kills the appetite for daily fashion. And has anyone made of the note in the mindset common man has, people who are too dressed up are arrogant and 'bad'. Time to get out of all mindsets and make a silent vow to self to never live without style!!

2. Work wardrobe is an important part of every woman's wardrobe. We spent most of the time in weekdays in office, so it definitely deserves some attention. Ask any women about office attire and they will only count trousers and shirts as essentials. In Indian scenario salwar suits also fall into this category. What we miss out are things like footwear, handbag, accessories. These can make or break your look so they fall under your wardrobe essentials. Agree?

3. Time to sleep, dress to kill and look absolutely pretty. Can there be something more relaxing than going to bed squeaky clean and feeling all special. Make sure to get comfortable and luxuries or adorable looking night wear.

4. Rest of the day at home kind of wardrobe has to be functional and laid back. Nicely selected t-shirt and tracks or long skirt and nice kurti, the possibilities are endless. the mantra to select a day to day outfit is that in case you have to open the front door without getting a chance to change then the person at door should be taken by surprise how different you may look at home and not how shabby you can look at home.

5 Grocery shopping/regular errands wardrobe has to be very practical. This has to be something which doesn't need ironing and would be termed as appropriate even if you have to go to a local market. It should be comfortable and sensible; in case you have to life something heavy or bend down to pick up stuff(no showing off cleavage back or front).

6 Your gym attire should instill the feeling in you to look better. I have usually seen women wearing rags to gym, they apparently choose clothes which are over sized and ugly. On the contrary choose clothes which are well fitted, smart and have nice color and hue to it. The thrill to workout and motivation to lose weight and stay fit increases if you are al ready looking good.

7 At Social occasions which are more casual, have you seen some women wear a nice Kanjeevaram just because you are expected to wear a saree. Well those are the women who buy saree rarely, so they believe in buying rich and expensive sarees. Tone down and buy some casual sarees or salwar suit for such occasions. Looks that make heads turn is not always a good sign!

8 At Social occasions which are little special/grand in nature, I admire people who can experiment. Yes making your outfit look special is a challenge, in a party/function full of kanjeevarams, goergette, chiffon and crepe you need to be really innovative to make your outfit stand out.

9 Doing out for dinner/lunch with friends - outfit has to be trendy and according to the person you carry in the outside world. usually women of today carry a different persona at home(around family) and outside(with husband, colleagues and friends). The dressing up for dinner/lunch with this group as to be according to that. Its up to you to create a persona of a person who doesn't care about her looks or of a person who always dressed in style.

10 Doing out for dinner/lunch with girl friends - the dress for such outings is a perfect canvas to experiment on looks and trends. This is the time when you can give an edge to your everyday look.

Dressing up is every woman's interest and inclination. All it needs is a willingness to be thoughtful and tasteful. If money was the main criteria then we don't have seen so many badly dressed rich women.
